If a candidate for Mayor receives more than fifty percent (50%) of the votes cast in the primary, then that candidate shall be considered duly elected and shall not be required to be placed on the general election ballot. If no candidate for Mayor receives more than fifty percent (50%) of the vote in the primary election then the two candidates for Mayor receiving the highest number of votes cast by the electors at large shall be declared the primary nominees, and shall be entitled to have their names printed on the ballot to be used in the general municipal election.

NOTE: Pursuant to the City of St. Petersburg Municipal Charter, Council Member races in the Primary are voted on by single-member district. Accordingly:

  • In the Primary, only voters residing in Districts 1, 4 and 8 may vote in their respective council district races.
  • For each Council Member contest, the names of the two candidates receiving the most votes in the Primary will be placed on the November 2 St. Petersburg General Election ballot to be voted on At-Large (i.e. by all voters in the City, regardless of district).

*The Council Member currently holding the seat for District 1 has resigned (effective January 5, 2021). Accordingly, the current election for District 1 is to fill the remainder of that Council Member's current term, which runs through January 4, 2024, and is scheduled for re-election for a full term in 2023.
